Residents of Kandiga, a farming community in the Kasena Nankana West District of the Upper East region are calling on government to abrogate a contract awarded to Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba and re-award it to a more serious contractor.

The NDC regional chairman’s construction firm was awarded a contract to construct a road network between the Azaasi primary school to Paul Amega-etega memorial primary school in Kandiga. Residents however say the regional chairman abandoned road project has become death trap as many road diversions have become the main cause of motor accidents in the area.

The residents of Kandiga in anger are demanding that the NDC regional chairman be brought to book for abandoning work. They poured out their frustration in a statement read on their behalf by Akakuzia Mathew, president of Kadinga Youth Association.

“As one of the towns with the largest voter and taxpaying population in the district, our traditional authority does not and cannot deserve persistent disrespect and neglect from the representative of the president especially since we are an NDC strong hold” the stated

They are also appealing to contractors of the rural electrification project in two communities in the area to return to site since the pits dug for the mounting of electrical poles pose threats to residents in the area.

“We the people of Kandiga have been neglected for far too long, no access roads to the communities, no potable drinking water and so on, why, are we not part of Ghana? An aspiring assembly member for Longo electoral area, Maxwell Akanuwe questioned.

The people of Kandiga have therefore threatened to boycott future elections and to prevent entry of any politician to the area if some of the social amenities affecting their lives are not addressed at the appropriate time.
