Disgruntled DKM Micro Finance clients Accuse BoG and DKM of connivance

Disgruntled customers of DKM Micro Finance in the upper east region have accused the Bank of Ghana and DKM Microfinance of conspiring to cause further delay in releasing monies owed them by the micro finance company.

The group at a press conference held in Bolgatanga Saturday said “We the disgruntled customers of DKM see this additional 30 days moratorium as a maneuverer between DKM and the Bank of Ghana”.

The hope of clients of the embattled micro finance company was dashed when a moratorium of 90 days was handed down to the company by the Bank of Ghana for operating in contravention of the Banking act. Some news reports said the micro finance company has been obligated to inject a liquidity of 50 million Ghana cedis into its operations before being allowed to resume operations. This figure however has been refuted by the management of the Micro finance company.

An extension of the moratorium by an additional 30 days brought some disappointment and shock to the many worried clients who expected to collect their investments after the expiration of the 90 day moratorium.

The group said in a statement that “looking at the statements from the Bank of Ghana as reported by citifmonline  and ghanaweb to commence liquidation procedure after the 90 days moratorium, DKM has eventually been added an additional 30 days which we have seen as inappropriate and unfair”.

The group is therefore calling on the bank of Ghana to immediately redeem their monies back to them and then go ahead to deal with DKM micro finance as the law requires.

“We are at this note pleading with the nation’s financial regulator to pity us and redeem our matured investments back to us and continue with the negotiation between them and the management of DKM. Quarrel may occur between mother and a father but the children in the home will never go hungry” the statement added.

Below is the full statement

Press release from concerned and disgruntled customers of DKM Diamond micro finance upper East Region to the highest authority (Bank of Ghana) about the additional 30 days slapped on DKM diamond Micro finance.

Good day concerned and disgruntled customers of DKM, the press, interest groups, ladies and gentlemen.
I wanted to say good morning but I was afraid that someone will ask how good is the morning when landlords are evicting us from our place of abode, I was also afraid because some of you and your wards are traumatized about where you will get money to pay pending school fees, I was again afraid because marriages, friendships, homes etc. are broken because of DKM and its additional 30 days sanction by the Bank of Ghana.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, since I am restricted to say good morning but I can comfortably say, you are all welcome to this press conference.

Disgruntled men and women of DKM, Odewale said in the gods are not to blame literature book, how long should the feverish bird trembled in silent before its keeper. We have waited and wept in silence for long and therefore have to speak out about this unfair treatment.

Ladies and gentlemen, with reference to the information previewed to customers dated 11th May 2015, authorizing all branches of DKM Diamond Micro Finance to be closed for a 90 day moratorium by the bank of Ghana which was supposed to expire on the 11th of August 2015. Customers upon waiting patiently for these 90 days to get their monies, an additional 30 days had been slapped again which we think is inhuman because August, September are months that we pay admission fees.

Ladies and gentlemen, on the 15th of May 2015, citionline.com reported an interview that the head of other financial institution of bank of Ghana Mr Amanfu Raymond said when he was asked about the fate of the customers,” ….. the company would be liquidated and depositors would be paid their principal investments after the audit is completed in three months”.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, Ghanaweb reported on the 11th of  August, 2015 that citi Business News has gathered that the Bank of Ghana has directed DKM Micro finance Limited to inject a total of Gh¢ 50 million into its operations before it will be allowed to commence operations”.

Ghanaweb on the same publication reported that ..Per the new directive the Bank of Ghana says it will be compelled to commence liquidation procedures of DKM microfinance limited  if the company fails to inject the 50 million Ghana Cedis after the expiry of the 90 day moratorium period which elapses today ( that was on 11th August 2015).
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, looking at the statements from the Bank of Ghana as reported by citionline and ghanaweb to commence liquidation procedure after the 90 days moratorium on DKM has eventually added an additional 30 days which we have seen as inappropriate and unfair. We the disgruntled customers of DKM see this additional 30 days moratorium as a maneuverer between DKM and the Bank of Ghana.

Ladies and Gentlemen, after hearing nothing from DKM on the deadline date (11th August, 2015) we stormed the office premises numbering about hundred and thirty customers in which we were confronted by some of the workers of DKM Bolga Brach. After we have told them about the total neglect and lack of information. The workers started making phone calls and  for about 20 to 30 minutes we started getting text messages from DKM and at that evening I read a press release letter sent by a worker by name Daniel on a group whats up page. Which we perceive as not being authentic because authorized names and signatories were missing. This clearly tells us that the management of DKM have forgotten of us totally unless we pressure them. The baby who thinks it is punishing the mother by not walking, does not only punish the mother but eventually develops hard buttocks. DKM is not only punishing us but causing damages to its reputation.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, we are at this note plead with the nations financial regulator to pity us and redeem our matured investments backs to us and still continue with the negation between them and the management of DKM. Quarrel may occur between mother and a father but the children in the home will never go hungry.

Energetic men and women gathered here today, we will not leave here without sounding a warning to DKM that there is time for everything and therefore we need an immediate response to our plight or otherwise we will therefore advice ourselves in all diverse ways.

Disgruntled and concerned customers of DKM, the press, interest groups, ladies and gentlemen, we thank you all for coming and we use this opportunity to entreat all disgruntled customers to take everything calm because the storm will soon be over.

Thank you once again and may God bless mother Ghana.
