Lawyer and member of the National Democratic Congress legal team, Abraham Amaliba has said expanding the Electoral College for the upcoming primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress gives the party to its real owners, the people at the grass root level.

Lawyer Amaliba earlier declared his intention to contest in the party’s primaries for the Bolgatanga central constituency seat and intimated that delegates over the years have been deciding for the people and sometimes the choice of the delegates does not represent that of members of the party hence that necessitated the expansion of the Electoral College to allow for members of the party to vote in the up-coming parliamentary and presidential primaries.

He mentioned that this move by the NDC will give party members the opportunity to vote the best candidate, because they are the same people who will vote during the general election. When asked whether this expansion will bring an end to vote buying that has over the years characterized primary elections, lawyer Amaliba said “yes this will put a stop to vote buying. If you are able to buy votes from all card bearing members of the party, then you are a Bill Gate.”

The NDC will be going to the polls on November 7 to elect people who will represent the party in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
