Public Relations Officer for Upper West-based Wa All Stars, Yeboah has blamed club owners for the delay in the start of the league.

According to him, the Ghana league delayed last year because the owner of Kumasi-based King Faisal failed to understand that his club was going on relegation adding that a similar instance is happening this year when the disciplinary committee has failed to strike out the case between Techiman City and Wa African United.

“Starting the league late comes from club owners especially this season, last season it was Alhaji Grusah and now it is the case between Techiman City and Wa African United. We should also blame the sluggish nature of the judicial system in the country for the delay,” he said.

Mr. Yeboah noted that the delay in the start of the league has had a tolling effect on all the teams since players have been camped for months without competitive matches.

“My boss, the delay of the league has put serious burden on all the clubs including Wa All Stars. We have signed contracts with players who are not playing competitive matches but are being paid. We have camped players for months and a young club like Wa All Stars is suffering financially,” he lamented.

He mentioned that before the close of the last football season, teams had to renew the contracts of their players because their contracts were about ending just because the league started late.

Although he was ecstatic the league was starting on February 20th, he rues the lack of sponsorship for the country’s topflight league saying “starting a league without a sponsor comes with difficulties and clubs have to bear the brunt.”

He was however optimistic that the Ghana Football Association in the coming days will secure a sponsor for the league because according to him, the association is far advanced in discussions with a company to sponsor the league.”

Asked why clubs in the country have failed to secure sponsorship for themselves, he said “My brother, every company sponsors something because they want advertisement so if your league is delaying do you expect a sponsor to come and run at a loss?”
