Upper East Regional minister designate, Hon. Albert Abongo will on Monday, February 8 face a parliamentary vetting panel following his appointment as minister in-charge of the region.

The Member of Parliament for the Bongo constituency was appointed as Upper East Regional minister by the president in his first reshuffle of ministers for this year.

His appointment has been described by some leading politicians in the region as very strategic for the National Democratic Congress, going into November general elections.

Hon. Abongo is expected to answer questions based on his understanding of the problems of the region and his ideas for the development of one of the regions noted as the poorest in the country.

Meanwhile parliament has cut down on the number of people who follow Ministerial nominees to their vetting sessions. The vetting committee said it had been bedeviled with multitude of people who are often bussed to the house to lend their support in previous vetting. The committee has therefore restricted the number of supporters to 10 henceforth and has threatened to withdraw the vetting of any nominee who comes with more than the stipulated number.

If approved, Hon. Albert Abongo will become the fourth Regional Minister of the region in President John Dramani Mahama’s four year administration after Dr. Avea Nsoh, Alhaji Limuna Iddrisu and Hon. James Zugah Tigah.

Hon. Abongo before his appointment as minister has been Member of Parliament for over fifteen years and comes in with a worth of experience in leadership and an understanding of the problems bedevilling the Region.

Hon. Albert Abongo will be deputized by Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem who is the aspiring Member of Parliament for the Binduri constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.
