Teachers and Pupils of the Nyokorko primary school in the Bolgatanga municipality of the Upper East region have expressed joy over the delivery of 150 dual desks to the school by the Ghana Education Service.

Before the delivery of the desks, the school which has a population of 274 had about 20 desks forcing pupils to sit on the floor while others lie on their bellies during teaching and learning process.

Attempts made by the head teacher of the school to get furniture for the school since 2013 never saw the light of day until Friday when the head teacher was called by the G.E.S to come for the furniture. During a visit to the school by A1 News, the pupils who suffered back aches and waist pains as a result of sitting on the floor while writing expressed joy saying their learning will now improve.

They however appealed for a bore hole to be drilled close to the school to save them from missing classroom lessons while in a search for drinking water.  Teachers also told A1 News that, classroom activities can now go on well because they can now monitor and easily control their classes during teaching and learning.

They added that, they expect pupils’ performance to improve now since they (pupils) can now learn in comfort and with peaceful minds. Head teacher of the school, Aduko Francis Ayine, thanked G.E.S for alleviating their plights and called on the government and other stakeholders in education to help the school with a kindergarten block.

The school which has no kindergarten has to merge two classes in one classroom and also use the head teacher’s office for the primary six. “I am happy for the furniture because finally my pupils will now learn with comfort and that I believe will improve their learning. But am still appealing to the government and stakeholders concerned to help my school with a kindergarten block. Now I have to merge two classes in one classroom and give an office for the class six”, he added.
