The Rector of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic, Dr. Mba Atinga, has appealed to Government and other stakeholders to come to its aid in terms of infrastructural development because the school has a deficit that puts it behind as compared to other sister polytechnics.

According to him, although the school on its part is doing its utmost best in order to close the infrastructural deficit gap, the efforts of the school needs to be completed by the Government and stakeholders in order to get the polytechnic on the same level with other sister schools.

Dr. Mba Atinga was speaking at the 5th Congregation of the Bolgatanga polytechnic held at the School’s Engineering Block in Sumbrungu, Saturday.

He noted that Government was doing its best at ensuring the school comes at par with other polytechnics in the country considering the GETFund allocation for this year but was quick to add that more can be done to improve the fortunes of Bolgatanga Polytechnic.

“This year, we got the highest allocation from the GETFund for our infrastructural development, nearly a 200% increase. We hope that this is the first sign of things to come.”

He noted that the school’s needs included an auditorium where they could have public gatherings, a well-equipped laboratory to help impart practical knowledge into the students and a lecture theatre complex, mentioning that the provision of these will put the school on a firm ground.

He mentioned that the school had secured a land from the landowners of Sumbrungu-Aguuse for these expansion projects but was quick to clarify that the institution needed funds to pay for the land hence calling on all its stakeholders to come to their aid to raise the monies.

“The landowners of Sumbrungu-Aguusi, a few kilometres away from this campus, have made available to us for purchase 110 acres of land for future expansion. Mr. Chairman, we would need money to pay for this land and we would appeal to central government, SADA, our Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives and well-meaning citizens to help raise the money to pay for this land,” he appealed.

He however, commended the landowners for their patience as the polytechnic raises money to pay for the land and their commitment to the development of education in general and the growth of the Polytechnic.

In all eight hundred and seventy-six students were handed Higher National Diploma in various academic fields from the 2014 and 2015 cohorts with 567 representing 64.72% being males whiles 309 representing 35.28% being females.
