Blakk Rasta has described the current crop of dancehall artistes as parrots who repeat words they do not understand.
According to the Barrack Obama hitmaker, all dancehall artistes in Ghana do is to copy beats from Jamaica and speak some patua they don’t understand.
He noted that if they continue to do this, “you are only being a photocopy and a parrot who repeats words it does not really understand.”
The former Hitz FM presenter stressed that dancehall could be sustained only if it is owned citing an example from Zimbabwe where they have Zimdance hall which is sang in their local dialect and with local beats.
He was of the view that if dancehall is played the way it is played in Ghana currently, then the genre will die.
He noted that King Ayisoba has gained international recognition because he owns his music which fuses his culture adding that until the dancehall artistes learn to own the genre by fusing in their culture, they will remain in Ghana and die out of poverty.
“Ayisoba does kologo and that has won him international recognition. So if you want to be a half rated Jamaican and American you will remain here in Ghana and die out of poverty.”
