HIT AND FORGOTTEN: The Story of Little Raszka Yukubu

It is the dream of every single mother who endured nine months pregnancy single handedly to raise her child in a very normal and adorable manner. But that is not the case with Madam Mandalinatu Ahmed and her little daughter Raszka Yakubu, a 12 year old pupil of Amadiya Primary school in Bolgatanga.

The dream of Raszka Yakubu, a pretty young girl of Yaragabisi was also crashed from the day a Hyundai Excel Taxi Cab with registration number GR 6846 F belonging to Madam Mariam Awemoni a police officer here in Bolgatanga suddenly crossed her and knocked her down leaving her with avulsion injury on her right lower legs and Open fracture of her right Tibia/Fubla.

Madam Mandalinatu Ahmed emotionally shared her pains saying the current condition of her daughter Raszka Yukubu has left her with no other option but to beg for alms.

“I used to sell inside the market together with the market women but today, I don’t sell in the market again because I have sold all my goods and left alone with nothing, now even when I went to the market looking for what to buy some of the market women who know me very well, always assist me with some food stuffs like tomatoes, pepper and onions. People are now afraid of me because i borrow and cannot pay back and it is becoming hard.”

According to her, the car owner Madam Mariam Awemoni only assisted them with a total amount of Gh₵ 300.00 when the accident occurred and like many others, justice eluded young Raszka Yakubu as the driver Tahiru Mohammed who rammed into her has since been left off the hook walking free whiles the little girl suffers with her mother.

The little Raszka Yukubu added that she is handicapped now and does not know what to do because of her situation.

“Looking my mother go through these difficult time, makes me so sad, because is only my mother who cares for me and my other sister and even eating is a problem to us. People now call my mother names because she borrowed and cannot pay them back all because of my condition and the man who knocked me down told my mother not to call him again for help,” she said.

According to a Doctor’s report, the injury affected the distal growth plate of the tibia and there is a possibility of worsening of the deformity.

The Mother of  Raszka Yakubu, Madam Mandalinatu Ahmed is using this medium to ask the general public to come to their aid to enable Raszka Yukubu continue receiving treatment at St. John of God Hospital in Dauyaw Nkwanta.
