Government of Ghana will by close of the month see to the signing of a contractual agreement with a Brazilian Quiroz Galvao engineering group to kick start the reconstruction and upgrade work on the 50-kilometer Bolgatanga-Bawku trunk road.
To this effect, the sector ministry has secured the needed funding to seal the proposed deal with the said group to enable them move to site as per the signing of the agreement.
Brazilian Quiroz Galvao is currently in charge of the upgrade of runway and expansion work at the Tamale Airport Terminal.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo who made the disclosure in an interaction with the media in Bolgatanga said the much talked about Bolga-Bawku stretch of road remains one of his priority projects and that government is committed to expedite action to ensure its successful completion.
The minister touched on other developmental issues affecting the region and pledged his readiness to pursue them to the latter.
For him, development is a process that requires the collective effort of all particularly the media.
Mr Abongo, however, promised an open door policy and charged the media to contact him on any issue for redress.
The meeting organized by the leadership of the Regional Coordinating Council, RCC, sought to foster effective collaboration with the media in providing practical solutions to the myriad of infrastructural challenges facing the region.
It was also intended to solicit views from the media to help promote and deepen the governance system at the regional level. Key among the issues discussed bordered on security and the state of development in the region.
In a brief comment, the Regional Chairman of the GJA, Eric Amo, expressed grave concern about the slow pace of development in the region which he noted is partly due to the constant reshuffling of regional ministers.
He noted that in less than five years, the region has witnessed four ministers with some spending less than a year in office.
The practice, he warned, has contributed in drawing the development of the region backwards.
Mr Amo, further called on government to always consider the collective interest of the people first before taking decisions that have the potential thwarting the development effort of region.
On security, Mr Amo, was equally worried about the current instability in the municipality as far as the Bolga skin affair is concern.
He said for years, the municipality has enjoyed relative peace until the chieftaincy issue erupted.
The situation, he bemoaned has to an extent undermined the prevailing peace and if care is not taking, some unscrupulous persons might take advantage of the misunderstanding to perpetuate various crimes.
According to him, it has become essential for government and the national security to intervene by fashioning moves to resolve the impasse before it gets out of proportion.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the various media houses. Also in attendance was the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Dr Robert Kuganab-Lem.
