National Democratic Congress in the Chiana-Paga Constituency has indicated its preparedness for the upcoming Parliamentary primaries which is scheduled to take place on July 9.

The Chiana-Paga constituency parliamentary primaries were put on hold owing to accusations of bias biometric registration and gerrymandering.

But the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia in a statement released Tuesday, cleared the constituency to organize its parliamentary primaries in order to get a candidate to represent the party in the November elections.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Azongo Albert on Day Break Upper East, Constituency Director of Election , Nuak George Magnus indicated that the constituency has been ready since August last year to elect a candidate for the upcoming elections.

“We were ready since August last year when the election was supposed to take place until it was even postponed to November 21 when it was held. We were supposed to hold it with the other constituencies, but for one or two reasons our elections was on hold, and nothing different has happened so we are ready.”

Asked the main reason for the delay in their primaries, the constituency electoral officer indicated that he and his other colleague executives were oblivious as to the reason for the delays but mentioned that it could be because of something the National Executives heard about the constituency.

“This is something above the region and constituency. The candidates went for vetting and we got information that we are on hold. Specifically why we were on hold we cannot tell. Some of the things are bigger than the constituency because the national level what they hear is bigger than us so I think they know why the election was put on hold.”

He noted that although there were problems with the voters’ register, the party came together to resolve it hence he does not foresee any problem emanating from the register on the day of the election.

Nuak George acknowledged that with the delays that has characterized the elections, it was clear turn-out will not be encouraging, but pleaded with the media and other stakeholders to help spread the news of the day for the election.

He used the opportunity to call on the candidates and their supporters to avoid politics of insults but rather organize their campaigns with maturity, adding that losers on the day should throw their weight behind the winner to ensure the party retains the seat.

The Paga-Chana seat is being contested for by three candidates including incumbent Member of Parliament Abuga Pele, Jonathan Nyaaba and Lawyer Rudolf Nsowine Amega-etor.
