The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is taking stock to revamp the defunct shea butter and soap factory in Nakolo in the Kasena Nankana West district of the upper east region.

The New Vision Consult which was established in 2010 served as a source of livelihood for the people of Nakola and beyond. However, due to management challenges the factory was shut down rendering many in the area jobless.

Deputy chief executive in charge of operations and technical services at YEA, Luke Atazona who paid a familiarization visit to the factory outlined measures to revamp the factory.

“Most of the equipments are still in good shape, we only need some basic operational logistics. I have asked our district director through the regional deputy manager to take a stock of what needs to be done to get this facility back in shape” he said.

The factory which is located in a hub of shea trees, temporally houses students of University for Development Studies from Navrongo, Wa and Tamale campuses who are doing a field study in the community. Some women of the area who were picking sheanut to feed the factory before it collapsed expressed their frustration to a1radioonline.com.

“We no longer hope because we were thinking that our children would also benefit from this factory after they have finished school but as we speak now, we cannot provide for the needs of our children let alone pay their school fees,” a mother said.

The factory when revamped will provide jobs for the teeming unemployed persons of the area who for lack of jobs travel to southern Ghana in search of nonexistent jobs.
