Police Officer Outdoored As Mirigu Chief

A police officer was over the weekend outdoored paramount chief of Mirigu, a community in the Kasena Nankana West District of the Upper East region.

The new chief Naba Anthony Anonsona Abisa Atasige III took over the skin from his late father Naba Abisa John Atasige II who died in 2013.

The outdooring ceremony attended by divisional chiefs, elders, political figures was colorful as the aged and the youth danced to traditional music known as ‘yongo’.

In his inaugural speech, Naba Anthony Anonsona Abisa Atasige III commended government for putting up a Community Day Senior High School in the area. He however appealed to government to assist in completing the facility to promote teaching and learning.

As the country prepares towards the november polls, Naba Anthony Anonsona Abisa Atasige III entreated his people to eschew all forms of actions that have the potential to cause mayhem in the country.

The chief who predicted bumper harvest in the area called on his people to bury their differences for a peaceful co-existence. The chief indicated that his priority is to reintroduce the celebration of the Balene festival which has over the years remained uncelebrated.

Naba Anthony Anonsona Abisa Atasige III contested the chieftaincy with his brother Isaac Atasige with five kingmakers of the area unanimously endorsing him.

Former assembly member of the area, Roger Atasige was regent of Mirigu until the enskinment on 23rd May, 2015.

“In the course of staying inside, he stays with the sacred horn and I tell you spiritually this sacred horn interprets a lot of things to him. He (chief) said the sacred horn have told him (chief) that there is going to be a bumper harvest, a lot of marriages, delivery of children and there will be peace in the land,” Mr. Atasige said.

President of Upper East Regional house of chiefs, Naba Sigre Bewong who confirmed knowledge of the enskinment process to a1radioonline commended the elders and people of Mirigu for a peaceful ourdooring ceremony.
