President John Dramani Mahama has given the strongest assurance that the construction of the Bolgatanga-Bawku road would not be challenged with funding adding there is an allocation by the road fund for the start and completion of the stretch.

The President as part of his ‘Accounting to the People Tour’ in the Upper East region cut sod at Lamboya in the Bawku West District on Monday to commence work on the road which has been the worry and cry of citizens of the region.

According to him, construction of the road will be continuous without any setback with regards to finance since there has been an allocation to sustain the construction process till finish.

“The funding for the road is available and so any delay in the road work will not be due to funding. The funding is fully available so when the work starts it will be continuous till it is completed,” he said.

Bolgatanga-Bawku road has over the years been in a very deplorable state and has always been the dream of the people to get it fixed by several governments. Although President John Dramani Mahama during a visit to the region in 2014 promised to get the road fixed, it has since not been fulfilled to date.

He further assured that the road which is about to witness a massive construction would at the long run link up to the eastern corridor road and hence make the journey from Bawku to Accra easier and faster.

Government of Ghana through the Ministry of roads and highways sealed a contractual agreement with Brazilian construction firm Queiroz Galvao to construct the 109 kilometers Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polimakom road. The project is expected to be completed in 29 months.
