The Catholic Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga has described reports of an alleged financial scandal breeding agitation amongst its members in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Bolgatanga as inaccurate, misrepresented and a clear demonstration of ignorance of the church structure.

News went viral on social media and other news platforms that there was some level of uneasiness in the Catholic Church in the Upper East Region with regards to financial mismanagement by some leading officials of the church in the region.

But in a statement signed by the Catholic Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese Most Rev. Alfred Agyenta, the church denied claims of being hit by a financial scandal and have indicated that it is not aware of any agitations involving its members, adding that both Parish staff and parishioners of the Sacred Heart Church are going about their normal duties and activities in a calm atmosphere.

The release described as unfortunate, how the informant who claims to be a parishioner refused to seek information from the various structures put in place to oversee financial transactions but went public with hi unfounded allegations.

“Unfortunately, the informant who claims to be a parishioner has refused or has not taken the trouble to make use of these structures and has chosen to seek answers to his queries elsewhere.”

It indicated that the church and its relevant structures have answers to all allegations churned out by the reporter and the informant and is willing to give it out to persons who genuinely seek to know how the finances of the parish is managed.

The diocese in the statement further accused the reporter of prosecuting an agenda of falsehood against the church in an attempt to bring her into disrepute citing several instances of misrepresentations in his reports on issues involving the Catholic Church in the region.

“We are still wondering what the reporter of starrfmonline.com is up to with this article about the Catholic Church in the Upper East region. The reporter seems determined to prosecute an agenda of falsehood against the Church in an attempt to bring her into disrepute. We have evidence of instances where the same reporter deliberately misrepresented events which occurred recently in the Diocese relating to death of a student of Notre Dame Minor Seminary Senior High School and that of a religious brother.”
