Presiding Member of Bongo District Assembly Luke A. Atazona has prevailed upon a livid group of supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Bongo constituency to reverse their decision to vote against the parliamentary candidate of the party Mr. Edward Bawa.

The NDC parliamentary candidate has come under a barrage of accusations by a group called “Lai Lai” for alleged disrespect and segregation of the umbrella party in the Bongo constituency.

According to the group, Mr. Bawa together with the District Chief Executive Mr. Alexis Ayamdoo Adugdaa and the constituency Chairman, Aberinga Tahiru have succeeded in creating factions within the party. This among other pertinent issues angered the over 1,000 supporters of the party who are threatening to vote massively for President John Dramani Mahama while making sure that the parliamentary candidate does not see the four corners of parliament house.

In what appears to be incessant efforts to get the discontented party members to shun an intended action that could cause the defeat of the parliamentary candidate, Mr. Luke Atazona took the initiative to meet with leadership of the group mainly to appeal to them to reconsider their decision and support the parliamentary bid of Edward Bawa.

“I am the presiding member of Bongo and anything bad about Bongo is my headache. And more importantly is that in security issues there is nothing like small. We are aware of the reportage about some of the issues that arose as a result of activities of those groups and as a presiding member and a concern young man of the region, I thought that I have to meet them and discuss with them, listen to them and see if we can agree on some commonalities,” he told A1 radio.

Francis Aloyale, secretary of the group commended the presiding member for recognizing the significance of the group and promised to convey the PM’s appeal to the entire membership of the group.

“We are the executives and we need to meet the group and a decision can be taken but as we stand we know very well that the PM wants the welfare of the party and for that matter Bongo constituency. We are not going to say that we will turn down his offer or say that we just agree with him because we have a lot of concerns. The party executives are not saying anything, the DCE is not saying anything, the PC himself is not saying anything so we have heard him. We will go back to the drawing board and see what we can do,” he stated.
