Upper East NDC Pledges 80% Votes For Mahama

The Upper East regional campaign team of the National Democratic Congress has pledged to achieve 80% of the total votes cast in the region for President John Dramani Mahama in the 2016 general elections.

Speaking at the inauguration of the regional campaign taskforce, coordinator of the taskforce, Dominic Azimbe acknowledged that it is a major task but not unsurmountable adding that the 66% the party had in 2012 will be increased to 80% because the party would campaign on its track records.

According to him, the upper east between 2009 and 2016 benefited immensely from the party citing the creation of new districts, rural electrification and the introduction of Community Day Senior High Schools as achievements of the party in the region.

“Today water source has been one of our major problems, farming is our basic activity in the region and so government in its wisdom decided to take a look at irrigation schemes we have. They are working on the Vea irrigation, the work is still ongoing. More importantly, quite recently we are all aware, his excellency was at Garu in the Tamde area to cut the sod for the commencement of work to start on the Tamde irrigation, it is a huge facility going to over 10m dollars project” he said.

The Vice President Paa Kwesi-Amissah Arthur as part of his three day campaign tour of the region is expected to address rallies and pay courtesy calls on chiefs in the region.
