Link Community Development (LCD), a Non-Governmental Organization operating in the upper east region to promote community participation and ownership of schools and effective planning performance has launched a USAID funded program dubbed “Promoting Transparency and Accountability in Education.”

The project which was administered by the Northern Network for Education Development (NNED) in the three northern regions is to among other things facilitate improvement in the quality of education.

In the upper east region, forty schools in five districts including Talensi, Nabdam, Kassena Nankana West, Builsa North and Bawku West stand the chance of benefiting from the programme.

Speaking to stakeholders in education at a forum held in Bolgatanga, Link Community Development Programme Manager Samuel Ofori Boakye underscored the need to engage stakeholders in education in the beneficiary districts to enhance transparency and accountability in the delivery of education in the region.

According to him, LCD has been working so hard in the region for over a decade to improve access and quality of education as part of the organization’s core mandate.

“I agree that the project is important as the lined up activities will help resolve the governance challenges of education reforms to provide access to better education service to children in the region,” he said.

Monitoring and evaluation manager of Northern Network for Education Development (NNED) Yelewere Vitus Domevi indicated the Global Corruption Report on Education has prompted the call for building integrity and overcoming corruption in education as a global concern.

This he added calls for new approaches to tackling corruption in education. He further encouraged stakeholders to be committed in order to make the PTAE programme a successful one for the benefit of their school children.

The “Promoting Transparency and Accountability in Education” project is funded by the USAID.
