Aspiring Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party in the Builsa South Constituency of the Upper East Region Daniel Gariba has downplayed allegations of fraud leveled against him by General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress but admitted to failing to pay claims of customers of his micro-finance company.

Asiedu Nketiah alleged on Accra-based Joy News, Tuesday, that the Parliamentary Candidate had extorted monies from constituents of Builsa South and invested it into defunct DKM Micro-finance.

He further accused the NPP of being architects of the Micro-finance crisis which has hit the country just to create some disaffection for the government.

But speaking to Azongo Albert on A1radio’s flagship program, Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Gariba denied claims by Asiedu Nketiah who he described as ill-informed but added that the monies were invested in defunct God is Love micro-finance.

According to him, the comments of the NDC’s General Secretary has come as a shock to him because he has nothing to do with DKM and he has not taken monies from his constituents and invested in DKM.

“I do not have any money of my customers sitting with DKM and I did not extort any money from my constituents to go and invest with DKM and so I was surprised to hear him talk about that. I didn’t know what he was talking about.”

Mr. Garibah, however, admitted that his Micro-finance Company, ComAid Micro-finance which operated in Bolgatanga is facing some challenges which Asiedu Nketia wants to ride on to gain some political points.

He blamed the ruling government’s bad decision making for the challenges his outfit is facing saying “These challenges I am talking of were initiated by his government as a result of bad decision making that has led so many customers losing huge sums of money including his company ComAid Micro-finance. In the Micro-finance business any action made by government to intervene by freezing the account of DKM will have a rippling effect on other micro-finance companies because customers will come in to withdraw their investments in what we call panic withdrawal.. so that was the situation ComAid found itself in because the money available at the time could not pay customers.”

Mr. Gariba indicated that some of his customers also took loans from his outfit and invested into DKM and could not pay back because they also invested into DKM adding that his outfit also invested in defunct God is Love Micro-finance which accounts also got frozen by government hence creating a problem for his outfit.

He indicated that all these problems were created by the government and but the government in order to win political points has turned around to shift blames in order to win political points.

He was optimistic of paying back investments of customers because his outfit had won a case in court against God Is Love and the judgment will compel God is Love to pay their monies to them.
