Police recruits at the Police Training School in Pwalugu in the Upper East region have been disallowed from partaking in the special voting currently ongoing in the various constituencies in the country.
The recruits were bused from their school to the Regional House of Chiefs where the special voting is currently ongoing.
However, their presence there was challenged by the opposition political parties who argued that the recruits were not fully employed by the Police service hence they were not qualified to vote in the special voting process.
Abdallah Jonathan Salifu, Bolgatanga constituency secretary of the National Democratic Congress who spoke to a1radioonline.com disclosed that the parties were furnished with names of the recruits who will be partaking in the special voting but was however greeted with opposition.
“The police furnished all parties with the list of special voters from the Police training school last two days but the opposition parties had problems with it from the day it was brought and that is the same thing they are doing today.”
He mentioned that opposition parties are getting it wrong because the recruits were going to assist police during the day of the election and need to vote.
Abdallah however said all parties have agreed that the recruits will not vote but will sit down with the Electoral Commission to know the way forward for the recruits.
