A member of the National Democratic Congress’ communication team in the Upper East Region, John Paul Danka, has taken a swipe at the President for creating New Ministries when he has vowed to protect the Public Purse.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has so far nominated some 25 persons to head various ministries pending their approval by parliament with more expected to be announced.

The president has also come under heavy criticism for creating two new ministries and re-aligned others including the Ministry for Monitoring and Evaluation, Ministry for Regional Reorganization and Special Projects, Ministry for Railways Development among others.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show, Thursday, Mr. Paul Danka said  protecting the public purse is not all about blocking loopholes and stopping corruption as the President keeps telling Ghanaians but also reflective in the size of the government.

“We heard the President during his inaugural speech saying that he will protect the public purse but protecting the public purse is not about blocking loopholes and fighting corruption like he is always saying.”

He added that the President is creating a legal means to siphon and empty the national purse which he claims to protect.

“You can institutionalize a very good leak legally to siphon and empty the national purse and this is what we are seeing because every ministry has a budget.”

To him, as a developing country, the best President Nana Akufo-Addo could have done was to have resourced certain commissions in order to make them effective rather creating ministries which will have budgets like every other ministry to siphon the tax payer’s money.

He noted that with the trend of appointments by the President, he will not be shocked that “in the days to come the President will appoint Ministers in charge of Rural Electrification, Asphalting, and other portfolios which are of no use”.
