Ghana starts AFCON campaign with a slim win over Uganda

Ghana Black Stars started their AFCON campaign with a slim win over the Cranes of Uganda in an AFCON tournament which has seen several surprises.

The game was the fourteenth time the two countries have met and the third time they have met in the African Cup of Nations.

Ghana took an early lead in the game from a spot kick after the captain of the side, Asamoah Gyan, was brought down in the penalty area of the Ugandan team in the thirty-first minute.

Ghana was put infront by Deputy captain of the team, Andre Ayew who neatly converted the penalty in the thirty-second minute of the game.

The game was a ding-dong affair after the goal although the Ugandan team threatened the goal area of the Black Stars but could not get the ball past the Ghana’s goalkeeper.

Ghana leads the Group D with three points and will take on take on Mali in their next group game.
