Gospel artiste, Nicholas Omane, has said the music industry was crippled last year because of the political fever that took over the airwaves and other mediums and avenues for promoting music in the country and that will affect the competitiveness of the VGMAs
The ‘Aporsor’ hitmaker who was speaking to A1Radio’s Kofi Asante on this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, indicated that the award scheme would have been competitive this year if politicians had not taken all the platforms musicians needed to promote songs.
“For last year, I will say the politics took away the best part of music scene because the politicians had taken over radio and TV. We could not use our songs for what we intended to do with it.”
He, however, mentioned that good songs will always make the mark and the best songs regardless of their lack of promotion will win good awards at the award scheme that celebrates Ghanaian music.
“We don’t expect much but we will be there to see what will go on and move on from there to face 2017 which has come with its own challenges and good tidings.”
On the claims that some Gospel artistes pay bribes for awards, the ‘Tabitakum’ hitmaker mentioned that he has never paid bribes for awards but indicated that there is a possibility considering the attitude of some Gospel artistes who will do anything to gain the recognition.
