Contrary to reports that over eight hundred and thirty-five recruits have been sacked from the Pwalugu Police training school, Commanding officer at the school, ASP Victor Adusei Poku has said only seventy-nine recruits were sacked.
According to him, Pwalugu Police Training School tops in the number of recruits sacked from the various Police training schools in the country.
On whether the recruits were a threat to the security of the country, he downplayed any forms of threats from the sacked recruits.
He indicated that the Service runs a strategic training program which introduces handling of weapons and use of other critical infrastructure after verification has been done on their certificates and other information they provide about themselves.
“We don’t really think so because we have our strategic training, so those that relate to the use of weapons and critical infrastructure development we push them to the second semester.”
“The first batch reported in November and the second did report in December so there have not been so much. Because of the checking, we have also shifted some of the dangerous training to the second semester because we knew that after the check some of them may have to go,” he told a1radioonline.com
He, however, mentioned that the Service does not intend to replace the sacked recruit because that will be a setback to the training process but hinted that some could be called back if they are able to provide the Service with valid certificates.
On whether the action by the service had some political undertones, ASP Victor Adusei Poku said: “this action started under the former IGP and that has been the norm so people should not politicise this because we want the best for the country”.
