President Akufo-Addo has condemned attacks on some supporters of the National Democratic Congress by alleged members of the New Patriotic Party during the transition period.

There were several attacks on especially public service departments and KVIPs across the country by individuals who were alleged to be members of the New Patriotic Party’s Invincible Forces.

But delivering his first State of the Nation address today on the floor of Parliament, President Akufo-Addo condemned the attacks on political opponents; something which he indicated marred an otherwise dignified and successful transition process.

“Certain incidents occurred during the transition period that is of concern to me and should be to every Ghanaian as they marred an otherwise dignified and successful transition process. Wrong doing has no political colour and I do not subscribe to the lawlessness of political party supporters simply because their political parties has been elected into office,” he told parliament.

The former Foreign affairs minister noted that “these attacks were predicated on some concept of equalization as they happened in 2009 and were repeated again in 2017”.

He, therefore, condemned such acts of violence and called on all political parties especially the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress to ensure that such undignified acts occur during periods of transition.

“I condemn all such conducts and I call on all political parties especially the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress to ensure that this is the last time such undignified acts occurring during our periods of transition.”
