I have no interest in who becomes Bolgatanga MCE – Rockson Bukari

Before he assumes office as regional minister, the newly sworn-in Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari has cuttingly dismissed rumours he is using his ministerial position to influence who becomes the next Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga.

There are rumours originating from a section of the public and among some faithfuls of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the in-coming minister has taken a strong stand against the appointment of two MCE aspirants among the three names submitted after vetting.

Failed parliamentary aspirant of the NPP in Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the 2016 elections, Rex Asanga and Chairperson of the NPP for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Alima Musah are said to be favourites for the position. However, rumours flying around suggest they will miss out because Mr. Bukari is allegedly pushing for his supposed favourite, Joseph Ameyuure.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Mr. Bukari said he is not the president of the republic to decide who the MCE becomes nor does he have influence or interest in whosoever gets nominated to that position.

Speaking on Tanga Radio from his base in Accra, Mr. Bukari, onetime MCE for Bolgatanga described the rumours as total lies that should not be given public attention.

He cautioned perpetrators of such untruth to put a stop to it because such will not bring development. According to him, his job as regional minister is not limited to serving the people of Bolgatanga but the whole of Upper East adding his concentration currently is to ensure all defunct factories in the region are revamped to provide employment for the teeming youth.
