A member of the Peoples National Convention’s (PNC), Communication team in the Upper East Region, Johson Ayine has called on the government to invest in counseling at various levels of education in the country.

His call comes on the back of a reported suicide case at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

According to him, currently, most counseling units in most schools have been left defunct because they either do not have a counselor or they are under-resourced hence the need to discontinue their services.

Mr. Ayine who was on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show said he believes that investing in counseling at the various educational institutions in Ghana will rid the country of
such suicide stories since students will have an avenue to be advised when they have issues rather than seek counsel from their friends.

He, however, called on parents to have the welfare of their children at heart and also be approachable to avoid a situation where children distance themselves from their parents.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has debunked earlier reports that the female student took her life because she failed her exams or was jilted by her boyfriend.
