Information available to TopNews Ghana reveals about five final year female students of Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) have been gang-raped. Their rapists according to our source were villagers around the school who gang-raped them when they sought refuge in a nearby public basic school on the night of the day they were suspended last week.

It will be recalled on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, the Municipal Director of Education for Kassena-Nankana Municipal, directed the authorities of the school to suspend about 300 final year students of the school for misconducting themselves.

Following the suspension, some affected students sought shelter in nearby public schools while others perched with friends and families in the Navrongo township.

A male student who narrated the ordeal of his mates to TopNews Ghana said while the students were seeking shelter in one of the schools, villagers from the area invaded the school in a group and forcibly had sex with them. He said the number of the affected girls would have been higher but for the fierce residence, their assailants faced from some of them.
According to our source, one of the victims who could not withstand the trauma after the incident attempted to commit suicide but was rescued by her colleagues.

When contacted, Francisca Yizura, the Headmistress of NAVASCO, confirmed some of the victims have reported their ordeal to the Municipal Education Director, Ann-Estella Kye-eebo, who subsequently informed her and her management.

Mrs. Yizura disclosed all the suspended students will be recalled on Monday, March 20, 2017. She explained that since the identity of victims of the alleged incident cannot be established at the moment; they will be given the opportunity to make an official report to the school management so they could be taken to the hospital for proper examination.

She further assured that should it be medically established that the students were indeed raped, they will be given the needed attention including counseling and the required medical care.
