Mechanized bore-hole pump and its cables have been stolen from the Bongo District hospital in the Upper East region.

A letter seen by a1radioonline.com and addressed to the regional health director reporting the matter read :“I write to inform you about the stealing of the hospital’s mechanized borehole pump and its cables which took place on the night of 23rd March 2017”.

“The locks of the cover of the bore-hole which was drilled in 2015 by Fredmef Ventures; a company currently based in Accra were forcefully broken and all pipelines were removed with the pump and other electrical cables,” the statement further said.

The statement indicated that the hospital has since reported the case to the Bongo District police, Chief, the Assemblyman of the area and the District Director of health.

Speaking to the Medical Superintendent of the facility, Dr. William Gudu, he indicated that the mechanized borehole is the facility’s major source of water and its absence spells doom for the facility.

“The people took away the whole thing so what we are left with now is the hole. They have taken off everything. The bore-hole is the major source of water for the facility because the community’s taps are mostly opened once in a week and as a hospital facility we need to have water running 24/7.”

On whether the facility has security presence, he indicated that the hospital has limited security and with the location of the borehole, it would have been difficult for the security present to have an oversight over it.

He mentioned that the hospital will face the risk of an increase in infection if the situation is not looked into. He, however, condemned the act which to him will cripple the already struggling hospital.
