U/E: DOVVSU and CIDs armed to fight crime using technology

 DOVVSU and CIDs in the Upper East Region Trained on Data Management

UNFPA has taken Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), CIDs of the Ghana Police Service through a two day workshop training on data management in the Upper East Region.

The workshop which was organized in the Regional Capital, Bolgatanga was to furnish 35 DOVVSU and CIDs personnel’s in the region with some skills in data gathering on domestic and gender based violence in the Upper East.

A consultant of the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA), Senanu Agbozo speaking to a1radioonline.com on the sidelines of the workshop said the training is a nationwide training for DOVVSU in particular.

According to him, DOVVSU in collaboration UNPFA inaugurated the online data management system, where all information and data collected from all the regions are submitted electronically to the national headquarters just by click of a button.

“We have gone to some other regions in the country, now is time for the three northern regions to get their share of the training. We will be training them on how to enter data into the new online data management system, we will teach them how to transmit data and at the end of the day we will teach them how to analyze data. It is through this analysis that informed decisions can be taken to manage all the crime in all part of the country, therefore data analysis is very paramount in this training”

Mr. Agbozo pointed indicated that the security personnel will also be taken through a specialized software and even how to protect data.

He expressed his believe that after the training, participants will be equipped with knowledge in data management to enable then impart the knowledge to their colleagues.

The Upper East DOVVSU Regional Coordinator, ASP Veronica Osese who was present at the training workshop was very optimistic that the workshop will contribute immensely in making their easier as far as collecting data on cases of rape, assaults and more is concerned.

She commended UNPFA for their wonderful collaboration for assisting them in building their capacity in data management.

Participants at the workshop did not hide excitement, describing the training as an eye opener.
