Manasseh Azure Gives Back To His District

Manasseh Azure Awuni, a prolific writer and renowned broadcaster has donated 10 copies each of his books, “Voice of Conscience” and “Letters to my future wife” to the Bongo district library.

The donation forms part of the journalist’s effort at improving the quality of education in the district in which he hails from.

At a short handing over ceremony, Edward Asekere, former assembly member for Balungo electoral in Bongo who represented the journalist said the donation follows a plight he shared on a social media platform on the condition the district library is.

“I came here three weeks ago to read again and it had rained and when I entered I saw the librarian sweeping and I said what is that is it a dam in the library? And he [librarian] said it [the library] leaks. And so I wrote something small on social media, fortunately Manasseh Azure is with us, he saw it and said I [Manasseh] didn’t know my own district has a library so I am going to donate 20 copies of my books to the library.”

According to Mr. Asekere, Manasseh who previously donated 10 copies of his first book “Voice of Conscience” to Bongo Senior High School pledged to donate another set of 10 copies of his recent book  “Letters to my future wife” to the school so as to advance upon the educational standards in the district.

District Chief Executive for Bongo, Peter Ayinbisa who received the donation on behalf of the people of Bongo stated that the donation will go a long way to boost the assembly’s strive to provide teaching and learning materials to educational institutions in the district.

“I must say that Manasseh has done the whole district something very good. This is a first of its kind since I took over as the DCE for Bongo that an individual is presenting some reading materials to us as an assembly. It is our [assembly] responsibility to provide teaching and learning materials to our institutions so that our children will be able to learn.”

While calling on other benevolent persons to emulate Mr. Azure’s kind gesture, the DCE eulogized that “the fact that he [Manasseh] has even remembered that he has a district, a community and he has a library that needs his support and he has come out with his own books to support us means that when he has something bigger than this, he will give us. I want on behalf of the good people of Bongo, particularly the citizens to thank Manasseh Azure for this kind gesture.”

He entreated the librarian and users of the library to ensure the books and other valuables in the library are kept well to ensure they last long.

Some school children of Saint Ann’s Junior High School who graced the short ceremony couldn’t hide their joy but thanked the Multimedia journalist for his support to the library.

The Bongo district library since April this year has been disconnected from the national grid for owing the electricity suppliers a ton of Ghc 489.64. Its ceiling fans and an air-conditioner purposely to provide ventilation to users have craved for electricity for far too long; a situation according to the librarian, Awini Roger makes readers feel uncomfortable during working its operational hours. The DCE for Bongo however promised to assist defray the electricity bills own the library.
