Students in Upper East region break myth of science, mathematics and technology through STMIE camps
Many students in the Upper East region have developed keen interest in the study of science and mathematics. This is as a result of yearly Science, Technology, Mathematics and Innovation Education (STMIE) camps organized by the regional education directorate.
The STMIE camps is aimed at capturing young minds and helping them to project well in the future in order to take up challenges ahead of them.

Amidst the odds of inadequate laboratories, lack of professional teachers in the area, the region emerged first in 2015 and second position in 2016 senior high school national camps respectively.
Upper East regional coordinator of STMIE, Faustina Agetara during this year’s camp held at Bolgatanga Girl’s SHS said despite insufficient support for the program, its impact has aided many students to pursue their dream programmes.
The 7th STMIE camp was on the theme “STMIE, equipping the youth to face challenges of the environment due to climate change”.
Upper East regional director of education, Jane Sabina Obeng, advised the students to be ambassadors of change towards the protection of the environment. Cletus Atuk, deputy director of Human Resource Management and Development at the GES spoke on behalf her behalf.
“Students and pupils in some districts abandon classes rather and rather actively indulge in degrading the environment in their quest for quick money, through illegal mining popularly called ‘galamsey” he lamented.
