Officer In charge of farmlands and Protection at the Ministry of Agriculture in the Upper East region, Patrick Yensingit has said the Fall Army warm has not been defeated but have been controlled.

His remarks contradict the position of the Minister of Agriculture who insists that the Army Worms have been defeated in all parts of the country.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Christopher Asima on Daybreak Upper East, Mr. Patrick Yensingit said he could not declare that the Army worms were defeated because every now and then some farmers call to complain about infestation of army worms on their farms.

He said when such complaints come in, the Ministry moves with chemicals to help fight it in order to prevent the spread of the fall Army worms.

He indicated that the worm surfaced in Ghana in 2016 and there has since been no research on how the worms can be fought but was hopeful that with time, there will be a research on how to fight the worms.

He indicated that in the Upper East region, 11,711 hectors of land was affected but the Ministry in the region moved in with chemicals and some natural means to fight the worms.
