Information reaching a1radioonline.com indicates that Akwasi Appiah alias Bantama, a popular illegal small-scale miner otherwise known as galamseyer in the Gbane community of the Upper East Region was on the night of Tuesday October 17, arrested by the police for his activities.
His arrest comes at a time the government of Ghana has declared a clamp down on illegal mining in a desperate attempt to reclaim the fast-degrading land which led to the pollution of water bodies in most parts of the country.
Superintendent of Police Samuel Punobyin, the Bolgatanga Municipal Police Commander who confirmed the arrest of Bantama to a1radioonline.comon Wednesday said the suspect has since been processed for court.
