BONABOTO raises over sixty four thousand cedis to support education

BONABOTO, a civil society advocacy group of the Frafra people in the Upper East Region over the weekend raised over sixty four thousand cedis (GHS 64,000.00) in a fund dinner event held in Accra to support the BONABOTA Education Assistance Fund (BEAF).

The programme which was held under the theme: “Fueling Education in the BONABOTO area and its environs for Sustainable Development” was held at the Senior Officers Mess of the Ghana Armed Forces 37 in Accra.

The event which was under the chairmanship of His Royal Highness, Tong-Rana Kugbilsung Nanglibtang, Overlord of Talentang who doubles as a member of the Council of State saw in attendance almost all the big names in the Frafra area, regional and international branch representatives, corporate invited guest from the corporate world and Frafra’s from all walks of life.

In his welcome address, the national president of the association, Dr. Andrews Akulaa paid glowing tribute to the founder and live patron of the Association, Reverend Monsignor Roger Abotiyuure and the founding members for their visionary and inspirational leadership and continous support for the association.

He encouraged members to continue to support the association with their resources and brilliant ideas to ensure that the core objective of getting sustainable development for the BONABOTO area in particular and the Upper East as a whole is achieved.

Mr. Akulaa further urged the association to take the opportunity of the current national industrialization policy to effectively position the BONABOTO area as an attractive investment destination in this era of 1 district 1 factory policy so as to catch the attention of the government and private investors.

He then welcomed all members and invitees and thanked them in advance for yielding to the call to donate towards a worthy cause.

In his acceptance speech, His Royal Highness, Tong-Rana Kugbilsung Nanglibtang, overlord of Talentang who is a founding member of the association, thanked the national leadership for organizing the event and called on them to continue to show excellent leadership for the benefit of the BONABOTO area and the region at large.

He reiterated his commitment and the commitment of the other paramount chiefs in the area to the sustainable development of the BONABOTO area.

He added that education was a fundamental requisite for sustainable development and if the BONABOTO will see the development it so desire, education must be taken seriously. The paramount chief of Talentang admonished BONABOTANS to avoid divisive attitudes and in fighting and stand together in unity to fight for the development of the area.

BEAF is a flagship educational project of BONABOTO which was instituted in 2002 with the core objective of supporting needy but brilliant children within the BONABOTO area. The fund since its inception has supported more than three hundred young people to go through their education at both secondary and tertiary levels.

This year, the fund has supported thirty four students all in the tertiary institutions. The fund raising saw the auctioning of BONABOTO smocks, cultural and traditional artifacts and cash donations from members and invited guest.

His Royal Highness Tong-Rana Kugbilsung Nanglibtang and his collaborators donated twenty thousand Ghana cedis to the fund.
