An aide to Alban Bagbin, Joe Konuba has backed calls by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for the resignation of the ten regional Chairman who were reported to have thrown their weight behind the former President and have called on him to lead the party in 2020.

Ten regional chairmen of the National Democratic Congress last week called on the former President, John Dramani Mahama to consider take the flagbearership position of the party in order to lead the NDC in 2020 as they work towards wrestling power from the NPP.

But speaking to A1 Radio, he indicated that the call by the Chairmen will deepen the cracks and hurt the process of building unity in the party.

According to him, the regional Chairmen represent the members of the party in all the regions and have no locus to throw their weight behind one candidate when they know there are several other candidates interested in the position.

He said constitutionally, the regional chairmen should not openly take sides during a contest in the party since they represent the millions of people that support the party and taking sides may be very disastrous to the party.

He indicated that the move was just a calculated attempt by the Chairmen to paint the picture that the people of the NDC are backing the candidature of the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.

The aide to Alban Bagbin said apart from going against constitution, the Chairmen have a track record of overseeing the party’s worst defeat in 2016 and for that matter they need to be changed in order to introduce fresh limbs that will take the party back to power.
