Garu: Armed robbers kill one person in broad day robbery attack on GN Bank

One person was shot dead on Tuesday at Wuriyanga in the Garu-Tempane District of the Upper East Region when four armed robbers in a broad day attack robbed a branch of GN Bank in the area if undisclosed amount of money. The robbery incident took place at about 11:40am.

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yao Tetegah who confirmed this to TopNews Ghana described as a chain of robbery attacks in the area this week as he explained similar attacks occurred at Badoo where another person was earlier killed and Basuende, all this week.

The commander would not give details of how the attacks took place but he added that a district security council meeting was held over the attacks and the police have also intensified a manhunt for the assailants.

Meanwhile, this news portal has gathered the deceased in the Tuesday’s attack was a passer-by who was making a called at time the robbery was taking place and when the armed men spotted him on phone, they opened fire on him killing him instantly.

Later in the day, a similar attack took place at Basuende when a mobile money merchant was robbed at gun point and his money taken away.

Though management of GN Bank was tight-lipped over the matter, reliable information gathered has indicated that the bank has been temporarily closed down.
