The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional area, Bonaba Baba Salifu Alemyarum has indicated that the Bongo Traditional Area has secured land for the building of an ultra-modern hospital and has appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency step in to build the hospital for his people.

The Bongo hospital after its elevation from a health center to a hospital has not seen any significant improvement in terms of its infrastructure and personnel. The 122 bedded hospital which serves 130 communities until recently had One Doctor who doubled as the Medical Superintendent.

Speaking at a short ceremony in Bongo by TEERE, a Non-governmental organization to donate some medical equipment and non-drug consumables to the hospital, Naba Baba Salifu said the people of Bongo are ready for an ultra-modern hospital because he has secured land for the purpose.

He said “ Some years ago the then Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Koku Awoonor made a statement here that this was not a hospital but a clinic…And that if I wanted Bongo to get a hospital, then he was challenging me to look for a site and that he will provide funding to put up an ultra-modern hospital for Bongo District. I had to [look] around and eventually, I got a site at Gurugo. Even though there were a few challenges but at the end of the day things have stabilized and the people are ready to release the land. So I am calling on the government to as a matter of urgency look into the matter and build an ultra-modern hospital for the people of Bongo”.
