court knockThe Upper East Regional President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mr Paul Afoko Amoak has reiterated the need for Government to provide adequate security for judges.

He said the state of the bungalows of some judges have serious security challenges. Mr Afoko in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga noted that some judges were threatened just after they had passed sentences on criminals.

He said this when the Upper East Regional Chapter of the GBA this year commemorated the murder of the three high court judges with church service at the Bolgatanga Catholic Church, where prayers were said for the departed souls and their families.

Mr. Afoko recalled the vital role judges play in the dispensation of justice, and said the three judges were performing their constitutional duties and were gruesomely murdered at a time when absolute power was in the hands of some few people.

He said the act was evil against humanity, stressing, “Ghana has now chosen democracy and the power of the state is subjected to one body, which is the constitution and such a thing should never be allowed to happen”.
