Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye was yesterday sworn in as the acting President after the President and his entourage left Ghana for Liberia for the inauguration of Oppong Weah as President.

He took the oath of office as he was sworn in as by Chief Justice Sophia Akufo on Sunday 21 January 2018.

The move to swear him in as the acting President is because of the absence of the Vice President, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia who is currently in the United Kingdom on a sick leave.

The ceremony is in accordance with Article 60(11) and (12) of the 1992 Constitution which puts the Speaker of Parliament as the next in line in the event that the President and the Vice President are not available to execute presidential functions in the country.

Meanwhile, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo is expected in the country on Tuesday.
