The Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr Mark Kurt Nawaane has said Ghana’s government is not committed to fighting unemployment in the country.

The Minister for Agriculture in an interview weeks ago said the introduction of the Planting for food and Jobs policy has employed over seven thousand Ghanaians in the agricultural sector.

But speaking to A1 Radio on the station’s flagship programme, Daybreak Upper East, the Member of Parliament for Nabdam indicated that government is only paying lip service to the creation of employment for the teeming unemployed youth in the country.

According to him, from all indications, it is clear that government is not committed to solving the issue of unemployment with its continuous paying of lip service to the menace which is currently affecting the security of the country.

“The Agric Minister came to lie about the number of jobs created by their Planting for food and jobs policy. If they won’t give us the numbers very well, we will go to the Internal revenue service so that they will give us the figures and you will know that the government is not committed to fighting unemployment in the country,” he said.

He indicated that the only place where the number of employees has increased since the Akufo-Addo government came to power is the Flagstaff house which employs only party faithful.

“We can go and check with the Internal Revenue to check if the people who they claim to have employed pay their taxes through the medium they are paid through or we will go to SSNIT to see if their contributions are being paid and you will realize that nothing like that has happened. The only place I am aware of that the number of employees has increased is the Flagstaff house which has over two thousand employees. That is not employment but rewarding party faithful.”
