The Member of Parliament for Wa Central has said the Independent Special Prosecutor should have retracted and apologized for tagging the John Mahama led administration a corrupt one.

The Independent Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu during the era of the National Democratic Congress described appointees of the John Dramani Mahama led administration as looters in several articles he wrote during that period.

But speaking to A1 Radio’s Samuel Mbura on the station’s flagship programme, Daybreak Upper East, Rashid Pelpuo indicated that he expected Martin Amidu to retract such statements and apologize to the John Mahama led administration because no court of law had ruled that appointees under John Mahama were corrupt.

He indicated that apologizing would have given him a fresh start but the Independent special prosecutor who was full of himself and very confident stood by his words and never agreed to apologize.

“I was fully aware of issues that he had to retract but he insisted on what he believes in. So let’s hope he comes to the job as an impartial man and he does a better job for Ghana. It is only God who does not make mistakes. On the issue where he called Mahama’s administration looters, if I were him I would have retracted so that I have a fresh start because no issue of corruption was established against anybody but he called people corrupt so I though on those issues he was overreaching.”

He indicated that the Special Prosecutor is now above partisan politics and would work as an independent body bereft of influence from any political party influence.

“There was a question like that to him and he had already said that he is not a party person and once that the position has been given to him he will not act as a party person so if we are to go by what he said he’s no more a party person.”
