The Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah has said the state of the Bolgatanga Nurses Training College is nothing to write home about and needs to be given a facelift.

According to her, the school has been mismanaged by the management over the years and that has crippled the school’s development over the years.

The Minister who was speaking to A1 Radio’s Samuel Mbura indicated that it was a shame to see the current state of Bolgatanga Nursing Training College.

She indicated that other schools in other parts of the country have over the years used the development levy component of their school fees to develop their school and was sad that the Bolgatanga Nursing Training College has been in existence over the years but lags in terms of infrastructure.

“Look at their dormitories and classroom, the place didn’t look like students were going to study in those structures over there. Look the school did not even have a toilet facility when I visited the school. It is a shame. Others schools have visionary Principals and they are working magic with their schools but for the Bolgatanga Nurses Training College, nothing has been done over the years.”

She indicated that the Ministry has resolved to make the Principal of the school step aside and also some teachers will be transferred in order to bring new hands-on board to help make the Bolgatanga NTC a better health institution.

“The state of the school is sickening and they are always in the news for fighting the Principal. This is not the first time they have fought a Principal, the previous one also had his share of the fights. We have asked the Principal to step aside and some other teachers will also be transferred to other schools so that other new people will be brought to help make things better in the school.”

To the Minister, she would have recommended that the school be closed down so that students will be sent to other schools to pave way for infrastructure to be provided for the school.

But a Senior Tutor of the school, Edward Atiim believes the Principal should not only be asked to step aside but must face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent to other people who have plans to misuse monies in every office they find themselves.

On transferring teachers, he indicated that there was no need to transfer teachers because they have over the years, they have comported themselves.

He, however, indicated that the school which has been closed for some time now since other Nursing Training Colleges reopened will reopen in the coming days so teaching and learning activities can go on.
