Talensi and Nabdam Districts NHIS Register over Four Thousand People In One of Year of Operation

NHISSince the introduction of National Health Insurance Scheme in the Talensi and Nabdam Districts in May 2012, the two schemes have made over four thousand new registrations and about eighth thousand renewals.

Some of the new registrations and renewals were done free of charge for people in the districts to help boost healthcare delivery in the district. NHIS started in Tongo in the then Talensi/Nabdam District with staff strength of about eighth with no furnished office. However, with support from the regional and national office of the scheme, the Tongo branch of the National Health Insurance Scheme now has nineteen staff, a furnished and computerized office which enables the scheme to register beneficiaries into the scheme within the district.

This was made known by the Talensi and Nabdam scheme manager of the NHIS, Jeremiah Awine Abugbire during the celebration of the tenth Anniversary of the NHIS at Tongo in the Talensi district. Mr. Abugbire assured beneficiaries of an end to the usual delays in receiving registered cards. He said the scheme in its ten years of operation is rebranding itself as well as their logo.

 As part of activities to mark the tenth anniversary celebrations, the NHIS organized a health walk and free health screening exercise over the weekend.

District Chief Executive for Talensi District, Edward Awunuure pledged the assembly’s support for the scheme. He also said that district assembly hopes to put up additional structures for the scheme to help improve healthcare delivery in the district. Mr. Awunuure added that the assembly hopes to sponsor brilliant students to do medicine to help support proper healthcare delivery in the district.
