The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC)has announced a 52 percent increment in water and 78.9 percent increment in electricity tariffs effective October 1.
This announcement comes after the service providers made a strong case for an increment.
The three main power companies in the country, the Volta River Authority (VRA) Ghana Grid Company and the Electricity Company of Ghana (GRIDCO) have been asking for 150% tariff increment to help them run efficiently but the regulator after consultation with stakeholders reached this consensus.
PURC hopes the tariff adjustments will assist the utility service providers to undertake critical investment to ensure the availability of adequate and reliable water and electricity supply.
