The Upper East Regional Chairman-elect of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Anthony Namoo, has said he was not in any way distracted by malicious statements sympathizers from the camp of his opponents made against him in the run-up to the New Patriotic Party Annual Delegates Conference.

According to Mr. Namoo he has “a big stomach” that allowed him to take all the negativity and “propaganda” which opponents relied on to derail him on his journey to winning the regional chairmanship.

Speaking on issues bordering his election into office, the astute lawyer said the integrity he has built for himself, his commitment to the party and hard work are what propelled him into office despite efforts by people to dent his image with lie and falsehood.

He Juxtaposed his instance to Lawyer Francis Sosu’s case in which the latter was suspended by the General Legal Council (GLC) for certain observed irregularities in his practice and stressed that the ill comments by opponents has the tendency of inviting the wrath of the General Legal Council on him if not properly addressed for the records.

He added that many people have left the party because of unfounded allegations people have made against them and believes that seeking legal actions against defamers will foster unity within the elephant fraternity.

“Sometimes allegations come up and you say in the name of party you are not saying anything about it, you will be creating disserve to yourself not only to yourself but to the party.  Many people have left the party because people have said allegations against them and I believe these actions will rather promote unity in the party other than division”. He stressed.

The legal practitioner in his victory speech on Saturday after he successfully garnered 124 votes out of the expected 303 votes to beat incumbent Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim and three other aspirants in the chairmanship contest, disclosed that some members of the party in the heat of the campaign made derogatory comments against him that have the propensity to damage his hard earned reputation as a lawyer and person.

In a short speech at the Conference Hall of the Ghana National Association of Teachers in Bolgatanga, Lawyer Anthony Namoo indicated to persons who defamed his character to either retract their malicious statements in writing or face his lawyers in a suit as he seeks legal remedy in a competent court of law.

In the exclusive interview, Lawyer Namoo still holds on to his intensions to sue if the defamers will not do the “right thing”.

Mr. Namoo has however indicated that he has sent out invitations to all aspirants to dine with him as a sign to show that they are still one big elephant family despite the flaws.
