The District Chief Executive of Bongo, Peter Ayinbisa, has called for calm in a land dispute between Kasingo community in the Bongo District and Logri in Nabdam District, adding that the issue has been referred to the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for redress.

Addressing members of the assembly, Peter Ayinbisa explained that efforts by the Bongo District Security Council to address the land dispute were not successful and leading to subsequent referral of the case to REGSEC for a peaceful conclusion.

The Bongo District was adjudged the most peaceful district last year by the Ghana Tourism Authority, and the DCE is hopeful the land dispute between the two communities will not mar that achievement.

“The district continues to enjoy relative peace and stability despite some minor theft and assault cases. I must attribute this relative peace that we are enjoying to the hard work of District Security Committee and vigilantism of our Hon. Assembly Members, our revered Chiefs and Opinion leaders. On behalf of our Chiefs and on my own behalf, we commend all stakeholders for their contribution to the promotion of peaceful co-existence in the district”. He said

“It is with a sense of joy and satisfaction that I stand here to announce that the district was adjudged the most peaceful district in the Upper East Region for the year 2017 and I dedicate the award to DISEC, Chiefs and Hon. Assembly members. It is my fervent hope that we will maintain this record for the next twenty or more years. We will not rest on our oars but will work hard to ensure that the Bongo district is second to none in the area of the peace and security. There is a simmering tension between the people of Kasingo in the Bongo District and Logri in the Nabdam District over whom the people of Kasingo should pay allegiance to”. He stressed.

Mr. Ayinbisa said the decade old dispute had been discussed at DISEC and consultations have been held with the authorities in Nabdam but an amicable solution could not be reached.

He stated that the matter has been referred to the Regional Security Council for arbitration.
