A member of the Upper East Region communications wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdallah Salifu, is asking Agnes Chigabatia to render an apology to the people of the Upper East for comments she made about the construction of the Vea Dam which he described as false.

Mrs. Agnes Chigabatia in an interview with Citi FM’s Umaru Sanda Wednesday May 24, made statements that suggested the Vea Dam in the Upper East Region was constructed by the New Patriotic Party in the year 2000. Her statements are contrary to records.

She made the statement in response to a question that sought to know the number of dams the NPP government has been able to construct in the Upper East Region since its assumption of office 18 months ago.

The NPP government prior to the 2016 general elections, as part of their campaign promises said they will construct one dam in every village especially in the three northern regions to curtail water crises in communities where access to water for consumption and farming is a challenge.

But speaking in response to the comments by the former Upper East Regional Minister on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio, Abdallah Salifu says it is an intentional attempt by the former legislator for Builsa North to distort history.

He condemned her actions saying her statements are misleading and amount to public deceit.

Mr. Abdallah Salifu is therefore asking Mrs. Agnes Chigabatia to render an apology to the people of the region. He has in the meantime urged people to check records to ascertain the truth.

Meanwhile, member of the New Patriotic Party regional communications unit, Randy Agana, says calls by the opposition party and the public for Mrs Chigabatia to apologize are unnecessary. According to Mr Agana, there is nothing incriminating about her statement that should warrant the ordeal of scrutiny the former legislator is been put through.

He suggested she be corrected and not asked to apology.
