Joint Ghana Burkina Faso team to work on Accra -Oagadougou rail line

As part of measures to improve intra-Africa trade, the government is liaising with neighboring Burkina Faso to construct the Accra – Ouagadougou railway line

To this end, cabinet has sanctioned a joint Ghana Burkina Faso team to work out the modalities and ensure the speedy commencement of the project

These came to light when the Minister for Railway Development, Joe Ghartey paid a working visit to the Northern Region as part of efforts by the government to improve the railway sector in the country

According to to the Minister, his visit forms part of preparations towards the commencement of the Central spine railway project in the Northern Region

The minister explained that, under the Railway Development Plan, the Kumasi through Tamale to Paga line is under the Central Spine project and the main station based in Tamale.

He again indicated that the government has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese Company to develop the Kumasi-Tamale Section of the line.

The Minister further revealed that the Accra Ouagadougou rail line will connect Volta, Bimbilla, Yendi, Tamale and continue to Paga.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed on his part indicated that, the project will result in development through job creation which will alleviate poverty in the area.
