The National Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbonyo has said the nomination of the new chair of the Electoral Commission of Ghana will not have weakening effects on chances of the party winning power in the 2020 general elections.

President Akufo Addo this week nominated Jean Mensa as new chair of the commission, replacing Charlotte Osei who was sacked some weeks ago on grounds of ‘misbehavior and incompetence’.

But speaking on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio Tuesday, Mr Agbonyo said the NDC coming out triumph in election 2020 it did not matter who is appointed the EC boss.

According to him, the abysmal performance of the New Patriotic Party government has shown Ghanaians that the best alternative in properly governing this country is the NDC.

“The NDC appointed Charlotte Osei but lost power in 2016. The NDC appointed Afari Gyan but lost power during his term of office. So it doesn’t matter who is appointed the EC boss” he stressed.

“As for election, it’s obvious to every Ghanaian that this government has performed abysmally, this government cannot continue in power beyond 2020”.

He lashed out at government for failing to respect the constitution in the processes that got the former boss of the commission removed from office.
